I've tried using an adaptec 2940 and 29160 card to connect my computer to and external iomega Jaz2GB drive (I'm using removable 2 GB cartridges.). I also have in internal SCSI drive (4GB) and a SCSI CDR. Both of the internal devices seem to work alright, but when I try to copy to or from the external media the copies are real slow. I've changed: the card, the computer the cable, the external drive the cartridges I always get the same problem - slow reads and writes from external media. All configurations tested were multiboot installations and everything worked fine when booted into either MDK 7.2 or win2k. I've recompiled the kernel to incorporate the old aic7xxx driver and that seems to fix things - sort of- one of my ext2 cartridges seems to have been corrupted when written to under the recompiled kernel (that may have just been an unlucky coincidence though). There are also several patches between the current version of the driver (6.1.13) and the version shipped with MDK 8 (6.1.8 - I think from watching the message fly by at boot). I'm still trying to figure out how to apply the patches since this is the first time I've tried to patch the kernel source tree. Has any one out there seen this problem?
