Well i'm guessing that you can't connect to the x server because it's not
running?
[john@homer music]$ rpm -qf /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs
XFree86-xfs-4.0.1-28mdk

So there's a package that has to be installed, and then you have to start the
server with service: "service xfs start" (as root).

Do you think that could be it?
