Progress has been made. I noticed that things work much better when I
change the color depth on the video card to 16 bit.
Now the main issue is that the console intermittently gets whacked out
when I dynamically change physical resolution in X. This is to the
point where I see hacked up line segments of TV output still moving and
scattered about the screen and I can move the mouse, but absolutely
nothing more. (Can't even Ctrl+Alt+F8 or F10 out.) I have to remotely
log in and fix things from there. Seeing that previous foul ups before
I changed the color depth caused massive corruption leading up to a
kernel panic, I became paranoid and just went straight to rebooting as
opposed to just killing the offending processes. I was wondering if
other people have seen similar things or if I should start wondering if
something is fouled up on my machine.
