Tuxracer requires a hardware accelerated video card and the glx
extension loaded. You can load glx by adding the following line to
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 in the module section:
Load "glx"
When you installed MDK 8.0 you should have chosen the "Hardware
Accelerated" option when it asked whether you wanted to install
XFree 4.0.3 or XFree 3.3.6. If you weren't offered an "accelerated"
option, your card is not supported for hardware acceleration and
Tuxracer is going to be unplayable. If you card was accelerated in
the setup, the glx module *should* have been put in XF86Config-4 for
you.
Note: If you have an NVidia card, you can get the NVidia drivers from
NVidia.com and then install as per the readme and enable acceleration
on NVidia based cards. Once you install the rpms, add the load line
as mention above and change the driver from "nv" to "nvidia". NVidia
cards will not be offered an accelerated option during install,
choose XFree 4.0.3. NVidia cards include the TNT, TNT2, and GeForce*
chipset models made by various video board manufacturers.
As for joysticks, most *mainsteam* joysticks should work with Linux
including standard generics, MicroSoft SideWinders, Logitechs, Gravis,
CH products, etc... Getting them to work with games I've never really
tried though.
