hi, I'm currently using Mandrake 7.0, and trying to upgrade my kernel to 2.4.5 A quick (but not that elegant) fix might be to just simply install Mandrake 8.0, and choose upgrade, but that would entail having to deal with the installation of a host of packages all over again - most of which i do not need. My current problem now can be summed up in two words - RPM problem, and mkinitrd Source Tarball problem. mkinitrd is one of the packages to be upgraded, as mentioned in Documentation/Changes. I did download an rpm for that, but my present version of RPM 3.0.3 (which came with Mandrake 7.0) just refuses to work, complaining about 'only working with major version numbers <= 3'. (Renaming the rpm does not work btw) I tried upgrading rpm using the rpm-4.0-26mdk.i586.rpm given in the Mandrake 8.0 CD, but even that, rpm complains about, once again giving me the 'version number problem' So i am forced to have to search for the source tarball for mkinitrd in order to avoid all this rpm trouble. Problem is, i've searched just about everywhere, but can't find it. Does anybody know of a solution for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
