Have the same problem here, different notebook (IPC) but same chip and
same problem. Someone at MandrakeForum stated that one should not use
kmix but alsamixer for volume. I tried this but it made no difference.

One thing though: cat /proc/interrupts tells me that both usb modules and
the sound modul use the same irq. I tried to disable the usb-port in BIOS
but there is no option to do so (very restricted AMI bios)

Next thing I'll try is changing kernel options and recompile.
