On the Windows machine, where you did fdisk /mbr?  You might try loadlin, or
you might go the easy way, and use a boot loader like GRUB or maybe even
LILO.

While installing Mandrake, you can chose to install GRUB.  Or you might boot
your system with the mandrake cd and do a rescue from there.
