Alright gurus:
I need help again - not surprising. I have 2 domains that point to
my LM 7.2 (2.2.19 kernel) server. I have postfix setup and
imap-4.7c2-4mdk installed. The pop3 works flawlessly. I am trying to
further my mail handling knowledge and I want to use IMAP to get my mail
instead of pop3, simply for flexibility reasons. I use Netscape to
access my mail. (and Pegasus and K-mail when netscape won't work) I have
multiple mailboxes and I want to try and use IMAP to consolidate access
to my mail on my server that is received in /var/spool/mail/username.
IMAP seems to offer a solution.
I can send mail to my server and I can retrieve mail from my server
with the ipop3d executable without any problem. I simply cannot access
my mail with imapd through netscape. I have read all the docs
pertaining to imap-4.7c2-4mdk and from what I gleen from the
information, IMAP should be basically "plug-n-play" from the basic
install. The only requirement is that you have port 143 open and port
(220 ssl) open to access your mail with IMAP. Well, I've done that and I
still can't access my mail with IMAP.
The problem has to be something basic enough to keep me up until
2:00 am -- it always works out that way. I have Netscape mail (IMAP)
configured to point to my server and it just never connects. I mean, I
can sent mail to my server from home and it is automatically received by
my server. I have the ports open. The tail -f /var/spool/mail/david
shown below confirms mail is received by my server and I can get it
using POP3. I just can't get IMAP to work. The following is my
/etc/services as it relates to IMAP:
***************************************************************************
# /etc/services:
<snip>
imap2 143/tcp imap # Interim Mail Access
Proto v2
imap2 143/udp imap
<snip>
imap3 220/tcp # Interactive Mail
Access
imap3 220/udp # Protocol v3
<snip>
***************************************************************************
I tested the following just to confirm there was mail to be gotten:
[root@Nemesis david]# tail -f /var/spool/mail/david

I hope Imap lives.....

The mail gets to my server in about 1 second : ) I can get it using
pop3d without any problem. What I need is HELP on how to access the mail
on my server via IMAP instead of POP3. Should I give up on IMAP and just
stick to POP3? What am I missing? What am I screwing up? I don't know
what else to try. Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
Rusty, do you have IMAP working -- or was that the problem with multiple
posts hitting the list? (Just kidding) I need help. Is IMAP worth it?
