Are you using a VIA chipset on the new machine? The 686B Southbridge
interferes with burning from CDRWs and resets itself in cross-channel DMA
transfers of 100Mb or more, so we cripple the kernel if we see it.
The crippling puts everything on PIO4 or less and reports DMA anyway.
Still, one wonders what else is on the channel with the CDRW.
If tossing your "autotune" instructions to the kernel allows it to work, you
probably have the answer from me. If there is something else on the channel
with it, was it there on the old machine?.
