i have been using mandrake for a while now. even the ppc version
on my imac. awesome.
however, i can't get 8.0 installed on my laptop.
i get the old
'can not uncompress second stage ram disk' error.
i have found the following suggestions in various postings :
- download a new iso file and burn a new cd
==> done that. doesn't help.
- download the cdrom.img, dd it onto /dev/fd0 and boot from there.
==> done that. doesn't help.
- make a boot floppy under windows and boot from there.
==> done that. doesn't help.
- install from windows
==> that installs linux on my windows partition, doesn't it ?
don't want that. have old files to work with on my linux partition.
and other reasons.
- i also tried the alternative cdrom%%%.img in the alternatives directory.
to no avail. now, the next thing to try would maybe be to give certain
options upon booting ? just which ?
please, can any of the experts have mercy with me for posting an
install question in the expert list and give me a hint ?
