With all of the Nat'd IP Addresses involved in Running an ISP, I am curious about what packages other administrators have used to monitoring/query the objects on the network. I am particularly interested in identifying who is on the network at a Particular point in time, whether they are using a Static Address or a Nat'd address. Believe me, I am not the Paranoid type that wants to monitor those accessing the net on a daily basis. But I do need to respond in a timely manner to reports of abuse from fellow administrators around the globe. I currently use Radius for authentication of the Ascend Dial-up pool, but I've found this to be unreliable for accounting who is on which IP address at a specific time. I have considered LinNeighborhood, but this only appears to scan the 10.10.1.0/24 network. I am using a Cisco 3660 router, Must I enable something for it to monitor the network? What do others use for this purpose? -- Albert E.
