hi david,

one way to test dependencies before you install it is
to use the --test option

rpm --test -Uvh package.rpm

if you try to upgrade or install any package that
command will tell you which files are missing,
dependencies, etc before actually installing the
package. its like simulating the upgrade/install. it
helps me decide to upgrade something or not. if it has
lots of dependencies and i dont have time to get those
yet, then ill just leave it as it is.
