Couple of days back I started hearing funny noises from my HD. Sometimes LM 8 stops and drops me to the prompt advising me run fsck manually. I am not sure if any precious data exists on the bad blocks. Hop do I mark the bad blocks so that it will not be used by the file system. I tried to boot from my LM 8 CD into rescue mode and ran fsck.ext2, now I am not sure what options to supply to mark/repair the bad blocks, Any advise Right now most of the time my system boots properly, but sometimes dosen't boot.
