Wow guys/gals.

The little parameter in vga=791 in lilo.conf

did the trick.

You could not imagine the rush!!!!!!

Thanks to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for such a prompt reply.

I'm right now triying to find the framebuffer option in make->menuconfig
but I see that the frame buffer options are already selected for my current
kernel.
(the one installed by default by Mandrake 8)

just by setting vga=791 activates the frame buffer support ??

or perhaps could you expand a little on what vga=791 means.

Thanks again,
Alejandro Imass

OK good question.

You have encountered a problem that cannot be solved within XFree. It
happens with several different SiS 630 notebooks and it appears to be their
hardware configuration.

The dodge we employ is to install the framebuffer kernel during install,
then
set up lilo.conf with

vga=791

And boot with framebuffer, even if Aurora is disabled. At THAT point, you
can start X quite mormally.
