My $.02.

1) Assign a netbios name for your server, make sure it does NOT have a
space in the name as this is problematic for Netbios.

2) W2K likes to do MS type authentication, make sure you've set W2K to
be a member of the same WORKGROUP as you've set up in samba.

3) At your Linux box after you've made changes, type in...

"smbclient -L server -U user"

Where SERVER is the netbios server name you've assigned and USER is the
user name you've created in samba for the Win2K login.

Remember that the user name and password used when you first log in to
Windows2K, is passed to samba when you "authenticate" a connection. You
need to be sure it works within Linux first!

4)Your smb.conf file is WAY TOO SHORT for Win2K logins, and is missing
many of the required entries. Use the example (and much longer) sample
config file and modify it accordingly paying particular attention to
password and username handling. Make sure you ENABLE encrypted
passwords.

5) Depending upon the samba version you are using, make sure the you
"smbadduser" and "smbpasswd" so that samba/linux/win2k usernames and
passwords are all the same.

Treat samba as a separate server requiring it's own accounts and
passwords. (Yes you can sync the passwords, but often this is a BIG
source of trouble, once you start treating samba as a separate computer
things make more sense to you.)
