Evil must be opposed

What are we then to do?
When your neighbor is murdered for no wrong that he has done? When their
children are left fatherless and motherless for no reason? What are we then to
do, when an enemy murders your neighbor for no sane reason? Is this not an
evil thing? Is there one among us who have not shared in this grief?
For many years we have had divided ourselves as black and white.
Republican and Democrat. Male and female. Young and old. Poor, wealthy,
southern, northern, Protestant, Catholic, Muslim... American. That day the
important distinction became American.
Who among us do not consider New York and DC our neighbors now? Who among
us have not born their loss with our blood? Our finances? Our sorrow? How many
have put their hands to the task of comfort and aid. 'I have to do something'
has been the lament across America. Do we not draw some comfort from the heart
felt grief accross the world? These tears are world wide.
The thing is, America is different. And intuitively the world knows it.
America has striven to be just and kind. A generous people. No one has
criticised us more than ourselves for our mistakes and shortcomings. At no
time in history has freedom and the persuit of happiness been
so attainable but for the idea that is America. God has wrought a wonderful
thing.
What are we then to do? We will see to it that our suffering are
comforted, and our neighborhoods rebuilt. And soberly we have to respond to
this evil. A people that was not our enemy has made themselves our enemy.
"You shall not murder"
"The evil must be purged from among you"
God
We must see to it that we ourselves do not become murderers. We have a
solemn obligation to oppose evil, but we must not murder. It is detestable in
Gods' sight that the guilty go free and the innocent suffer. Let us then
respect that. Have patience with the pacifist that cannot distinguish the
difference. It is pride, cowardice or foolishness that blinds them. Pride in
that they believe themselves the height of compassion. As we struggle to ask
ourselves "What are we then to do?' Let us strive to be a just and
compassionate people. Let no one doubt that we will rebuild what has and will
be destroyed. We must not allow our neighbor to live under this threat.
God bless America.
