Well.. I assume that it loads the kernel because once I boot up into linux
again, it says 2.4.9 at the boot prompt (I go to command mode)

Well, the problem is I'm obviously not configuring it properly (obvious if
you look at the boot process after kernel upgrade).  Last time I tried it..
I get a fs error (I assume file system?) on all the /hda* from linux.  Then,
once I finally actually get INTO linux, I have no internet access.  I
finally got internet access, but not after having to live with some ins?
error (possibly insmod.. I can't remember off hand now)

So basically I'm not configuring the kernels properly.  That would be the
problem :)
