Just for info purposes,the problem with less was apparently caused by having the instruction : setterm -powerdown 30 in /etc/profile.i have no idea why that statement resulted in the symptoms I had ,but once I removed it everything was back to normal.Is there another way to shut off an inactive monitor from the command line?
