Hello,

I've recently set up a link between two Mandrake 7.1 boxes using modems. I've got
the boxes connecting properly, and passing traffic. However, I noticed that there
is a bit of delay... a little more than a normal dialup. I did some tests and found:

Dialing up from a Windows 98 client to a Windows NT server, I get ping times of around
100ms.
Dialing up from The Mandrake box to the other Mandrake box, I get ping times of around
170ms. The time actually varies between 160ms, 170ms, and 180ms. (Note all multiples
of 10.)

I've set the MRU and MTU to 576 on both ends. Note that I believe all the modems used
in the above tests were identical (same brand of ISA internal modem, jumpered for
COM1), and have the same config (hardware flow control, 115200 baud rate).

It also seems like I get slower download speeds on the Mandrake link.

Is there any special tweaks to put in the pppd options file? I did do the asyncmap 0.

Bob
