I think my KDE 2.2.1 is broke (Mandrake 8.1). At first I thought that it or
the xserver was hung and the cpu was locked. I noticed that the hard drive
was thrashing around quite a bit. I found out that the system wasn't locked,
but the keyboard only responded every few minutes (ctrl-alt-backspace worked,
but it took about 5 minutes to do so). It seems to occur about 30 minutes or
so after logging in.

I first noticed this behavior while in StarOffice 6.0 and thought it might be
a bug there, but even if I don'l launch SO6.0, it occurs. It could by KMail,
Konqueror, Pysol, you name it.

The reason I believe it is KDE is because if I go into Gnome, it doesn't
occur at all. A couple of other oddities, under KDE, Mozilla and Netscape
6.1 start too launch but never actually do. Under Gnome they appear to work
fine.

A quite simple solution would be to switch to Gnome and I can do that, but
what I really would like to do is figure out what is going on under KDE.
Does anybody have any ideas?

Joe

p.s. This problem only started a week or two after going to 8.1. I never had
it under 8.0 (KDE 2.1.1).
