Well, many of the modules for the old kernel wouldn't load, but the RPM of the new kernel worked and RPM works when booting the new kernel. Nothing bad in /var/log/messages, so it looks like I'm set. Thanks alot for the advice, you saved me a dreaded (not as dreaded as some OS's where you have to reboot 10 times) install. Now just a little work with WINE and (in)SANE, and I'll be running Windowless computers. Chuck
