Has anyone considered spending a few extra bucks and grabbing a USB-enabled CompactFlash card reader? I have a Microtech Cameramate (I think that's the name) which I've used with 3 different digital cameras and an MP3 player. It requires a new enough kernel (I started with 2.4.5) with USB Mass Storage compiled in. You'll also want to support MSDOS FAT filesystems, as most digital devices that use CompactFlash cards format them in a FAT12 filesystem. When you want to copy files over, stick the CF into the reader, mount the filesystem, and use cp. :-) When you upgrade your camera later (like I have a couple of times) you can likely continue to use the very same CF card reader. You don't need special software (I dislike what's happened to GPHOTO...) to use it. Give it some thought. It takes some extra work and hacking away, but isn't that kinda why we're all using Linux to begin with? :-) corvette# mount /flash corvette# df /flash Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sdc1 1051648 52224 999424 5% /flash corvette# cd /flash/dcim/100ncd1x/ corvette# ls -l total 52128 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17774352 Nov 25 00:37 dsc_0001.tif* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17771822 Nov 25 00:38 dsc_0002.tif* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17773580 Nov 25 00:38 dsc_0003.tif* -- Jason Van Patten AOL IM: Jason VP
