My two cents:
While not a newbie I also am not an expert. That said... I did notice
differences with 8.1. It does have problems with floppies. I did the
install on three machines, one Dell, and two home built systems (different
boards, memory, etc. All three had 7.1, all three had problems recognizing
the floppy (the problem mysteriously dissapeared yesterday on two of them).
Furthermore, on all three machines the install software refused to leave my
/home partition alone allthough I tried both as expert and recomended; I
finally decided to reformat the entire drive.
Regarding the floppy, at one point I suspected the mount command was not
waiting long enough for the response. This was a problem with Zip drives
several versions back.
