Where is the AbiWord binary located? on mine (RH7.2) it is in /usr/bin. You say that this error does not appear when you launch AbiWord when logged on as root. Do the following test: Create a "dummy" account. Logon as that dummy user, and see if AbiWord launches. If it does, then your PATH is missing something. Hope this can help.
