I couldn't resist the $99 special at Fry's Electronics last week and ran out
to buy the combo unit with a 1 GH Duron and a Soyo SY-K7ADA motherboard.
While it wasn't on the supported hardware list, I had read at least one
review that said it was compatible with Linux...
Well, it boots, the only noticeable problems being the hard drive fixed
messages from the previous hang at shutdown and the "Checking for new
hardware; Failed to open terminal" message.
Once up, the Control Center Hardware list reports 4 devices under "? Devices"
Acer Labs Inc Ali unknown
Acer Labs Inc ALi unknown
Acer Labs Inc ALi M7101 PMU
National Semi Corp unknown
And there are 2 devices under "? Bridge"
Acer Labs Inc ALi M5247
Acer Labs Inc ALi M1533 PCI to ISZ Bridge [Aladdin IV]
Given a relatively short amount of testing, everything seems functional until
I shutdown. I think the system has shut down normally once, but it usually
hangs up somewhere. About a third of the time it hangs after displaying the
message "Shutting down kernel logger".
I have Mandrake 8.1 and did the Update routine.
I have Mandrake 8.1 unning on another PC. Seems like a waste to use this one
only for Windoze until 8.2 comes out. Anyone have a fix for this board?
Roger
