Eh, this wastes cpu cycles needlessly recomputing Bogomips and figuring out Uptime endlessly.
Try "man mingetty" Notice that you can have environment variables which are replaced automatically in the /etc/issue file by current machine stats. This effectively does the same thing you are trying to achive, but only incurs a penalty when the screen gets updated. Much more "elegant". BTW: /etc/issue is displayed on the console and directly connected terms (I.E. serial displays). /etc/issue.net is displayed to machines coming in via the network... (I.E. Telnet, ssh). -JMS -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Nguyen H.Vu Sent: Monday, December 10, 2001 12:29 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [expert] trick with /etc/issue 1. It means that a cronjob has been installed on your computer. It runs every 15 munites, put linux logo into /etc/issue. Use this to impress your windoze friends ;) #btw, can anyone explain the different between /etc/issue and /etc/issue.net? Thanks in advance Hung. Vu
