This is most confusing. While reading about devsf on a website I found that the terms /dev/sda1...4 are legacy designations and that they would be links to the actual devfs node. Since I had created the node with mknod I went back to try to figure out the link issue. Lo and behold when I performed an ls on /dev the file sda4 was now a link (I did not do anything to the machine or file). I tested the drive and it works fine under root and user. I wish I knew what is going on. If I turn off the machine, must I wait for some strange event of period of time before I can mount the drive?
