Try make ham Now that I have done an installation update to include development, 'make ham' seems to have run without errors. > then > make ham-install This generates the following message: make: *** No rule to make target `ham-install`. Still don't know how to retrofit the system from 3.0 to 2.96. I can now use wvdial to establish a working ppp connection to my ISP, but only right after a boot, so far. Right after a boot, both /dev/ham and /dev/modem exist, and wvdial works. If I close wvdial and attempt to query the modem with the dialer in KDE as ordinary user, "Sorry, can't open modem." When as root I go look in /dev, modem is in red, and ham is missing. I know a real modem is a better solution, but I really would like to make this fake work like a real one, since I have now established that it can make a usable connection. Sending the fake back in exchange for real probably means another two weeks lost. Maybe someone can see some clues to a fix in the log files attached? -- "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
