Hi, I was running MDK 8.0 at home without a hitch till I upgraded KDE to 3.0 beta 1 using the MDK 8.0 RPMs last night. During updrade I did get some dependency problems saying kdebase 3.0 beta 1 requires Menu so and so etc. , but upgraded using --nodeps anyway. The result is:
a) I can startkde3 from console mode by using startkde3 and can use konqueror etc. PROBLEM: I cannot login using kdm any more. kdm starts up OK but no login for any user. (I can login using gdm or xdm no problem at all) I read through a couple of mails in the archives and thought that it might be a PAM problem and copied /etc/pam.d/xdm to /etc/pam.d/kdm but that did not change anything still no login. System and user PATH include /opt/kde3/bin and I did put /opt/kde3/lib in ld.so.conf and ran ldconfig still no go. Can anyone hint what I need to do in order to get kdm working properly? Do I need to upgrade all the stuff that the dependency messages tell me about or is it indeed a PAM problem that can be sorted out relatively easier. Any hints are welcome as i feel that this is a config file issue as the kde3 programmes are running fine only kdm login does not work. Incidentally, I can reboot and halt from kdm no problems there. Thanks in advance.
