Problem: trying to find a consistent configuration that will allow RealPlayer AND other audio players to work.
1. I started with a system that seemed to be able to play sound OK. I admit that I hadn't tried to break it, but it seemed to be able to do all the normal things (play CD, MP3, etc.) 2. I downloaded RealPlayer 8. The audio sounded terrible. According to the documentation, the suggested fix for this is to run Esound and select this in the RP preferences. OK. I found Esound, loaded it, put a command to execute it in my rc.local file, and now RP 8 sounds fine. 3. But now no other audio player works. If I kill the Esound daemon, then I get the audio back, but of course then RP doesn't work properly. 4. Does anyone know of a way to get RP 8 to work and also have other audio programs work as well? Doc Evans PS Replies of the form "You idiot, it's all documented at this URL..." are perfectly acceptable :-) I went looking, but didn't find anything. -------------------------------------------------------------- Phone: +1 303 494 0394 Mobile: +1 720 839 8462 Fax: +1 781 240 0527 --------------------------------------------------------------
