Look for one of the recent versions of the 2.4.x kernel on 
http://www.rpmfind.net or http://www.kernel.org (if you prefer a tarball 
that you can configure and compile).

Oh yea! Look into firewalling with iptables....

Yes, it is. If you are new to Linux, you have a lot to read. It is not AIX 
or True64. Do not hesitate to RTFM and STFW, and, oh yea, have a lot of fun
