hi all,

i currently have a 10/100 ethernet card which uses the rtl8139C chipset.
i have it mostly working on the 8139too driver, but it is somewhat flaky.
the card came with a version of rtl8139, but source only and i can't compile
it.
the instructions told me to ./ a file called trans.
i did this after setting the correct permissions.
this is a type of batch file which runs gcc with some options.
the compiler throws this error which has me stumped:

In file included from rtl8139.c:70:
/usr/include/linux/modversions.h:1:2: #error Modules should never use
kernel-headers system headers,
/usr/include/linux/modversions.h:2:2: #error but headers from an appropriate
kernel-source

what exactly is this telling me? and how do i fix it so i can compile it?

i am running LM8.0 2.4.3-20mdksmp kernel. i have all the devel packages and
the kernel source packages installed.

i also found on sourceforge an updated version of the 8139too driver which
may fix my flakiness problems but i can't compile that one either.

any direction to proceed would be much appreciated.

moose.
