i use audacity - cooker rpm in a minor way, i like to rip favourite bits of dialogue from my videos and make mp3s from them, as in: "i am arthur, king of the britons - pull the other one!", you get the picture :-) audacity is nice for recording and editing the resultant wav files before converting, the only problems i have are that sometimes - intermittet problem not reproducible to order - it seems to distort sound on playback if i have more than one sample imported i.e if there are two seperate 'tracks' one unfer the other, also it will sometimes just disappear, usually after editing 4 or 5 large wav files, given that i only use it for myself and not very often this doesn't bother me much, also of course given that my machine is a cooker i can never really say if a crash is a program error or an os/system error
