Hello

Yesterday I installed mdk8.1 in japanese, (i selected japanese as the
install language then completed the install)

The system was very badly setup from the start, no console Kanji support
was working etc

I thought maybe it is just a console thing, so i started up KDE, all the
kanji were corrupted and the only menus I could read were the ones in
english!

I managed to find the language change section in KDE control pannel, so
i changed it back to english and restarted KDE etc. now i had a working
system, but still no kanji input (i have a UK keyboard on this laptop)

the kinput-wnn package which is necessary to type in japanese was not
installed, i dont know why, maybe i missed it off the install, but
surely it should be default to have japanese input on a japanese install?

So i added it, and could type in with wnn in mozilla etc.

the rest of the system was still displaying corrupted kanji etc so i
decided to reinstall.

I found an article
http://www.mandrakeforum.org/article.php?sid=1420&lang=en

and an english guide for japanese as a second language
http://www.math.wisc.edu/~stefanss/japanese/index.html

i reinstalled in english again and followed the instructions, but it
does not work now.

I have jserver and kinput running in the process list but nothing
happens when i press Shift + space etc

Has anyone on this list sucessfully installed a working japanese
mandrake system? any tips?

JG
