My fstab entry looks like this:
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto 
user,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,sync,exec,codepage=850,noauto 0 0

   -- and it works fine! I opened a terminal, typed mount /mnt/floppy , 
did an ls on it, and so on. Could umask be the "missing link"? Is your 
user in the "group" with access to the floppy?
