This is my lilo entry for the basic 2.4.17 kernel that works:

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.17
        label=linux
        root=/dev/hda10
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.17.img
        append=" devfs=nomount quiet"
        vga=788
        read-only

And here is the mandrake kernel-2.4.17-10mdk entry that panics on the root fs
mount:

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.17-10mdk
        label=2417-10
        root=/dev/hda10
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.17-10mdk.img
        append=" devfs=nomount"
        vga=788
        read-only

Would the simple lack of the "quiet" in the append statement be a problem?
It doesn't bother the basic 2.4.17 kernel as regards to its ability to boot.
