hmmm, if you buy a card, then you are primarily investing in the
hardware. You do (should) have a right to be able to make it work in
the OS of your choice. If NVIDIA or whoever tells you that you should
only use windblows for getting the best out of their cards, then
something is fundamentally wrong. And while they do provide the
drivers albeit in closed source form, there is nothing that will stop
them from discontinuing their support for linux leaving all the linux
users of their cards in the lurch.

while the original mail in this thread was a more of a rant than an
objective view, NVIDIA must be made to realize that a lot of their
customers use linux, and if they do not wish to release open source
drivers, they should remain committed to releasing the proper drivers
for linux so that their linux customers can also enjoy the best that
NVIDIA has to offer.

as someone who works is a somewhat related field, it is widely known
that hardware bugs are usually covered up through cleaver software
drivers. I am not saying that NVIDIA products are defective, but their
apparent bashfulness does leave one wondering why ???? esp. since
releasing just a "programmers reference manual" should not compromise
their trade secrets significantly.

Thank You,
