For example, if I wanted my kids to be proficient in WordStar I would welcome their teachers offering a WordStar class. In middle school I took CP/M classes and though I did very well, I haven't been able to use my skills anywhere recently. For this same reason, I don't want my children in a Microsoft Excel class. I would like them to learn how to do word processing, or understand how a spreadsheet works, but this *thinking* skill is separate from Excel proficiency.
In other words, I don't want my kids brainwashed into thinking that the Microsoft Way is the only way. Remember the expression, "When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks a lot like a nail"?
