Hi !

If your drive is an IDE drive, low level formatting will harm some 
essential info written on the disk but, a risk being a risk, the vendor may 
have some program to help you. There was a program call ONTRACK that may be 
of some help if you can find a version that can read your HD.

 From old days for old drives,

You may try an MS-DOS program call debug with the following instruction :


start debug
at the prompt, type
g:C800:5

this should bring up a program with all the utilities to low level format 
menu including interleaves settings.
