After having a server die because of an old HDD, we've lost all the mail
in the $MAIL. Which on the server is set to /var/mail/$USER.

I was snooping around, and found this, in /etc/postfix/main.cf.

# The mail_spool_directory parameter specifies the directory where
# UNIX-style mailboxes are kept. The default setting depends on the
# system type.
#
# mail_spool_directory = /var/mail
mail_spool_directory = /var/spool/mail

Is that what I need to change? So I could change that to $HOME/mail/mbox?
Or would that not exactly do the trick for me?

Has anybody gone and made changes like that? If so let me know if I'm
on the right track here. Thanks a lot!
tdh
