Hi JG, This problem is likely to be fixed by editing /etc/modules.conf and replacing the following line: 'alias usb-interface usb-uhci' with 'alias usb-interface uhci' I haven't had problems with the USB service when shutting down, however this alteration has calmed down my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (USB) from random freezing.
