Hi Norman Thankyou for your responce , The reason I spoke of DHCP is because I had Samba working one way (ie I could see the shares on my MDK8.0 box from my wifes win98 machine ,& read and write to these shares ) but I did not back up the config file , I then went through and set up internet connection sharing with the wizard silly me i hear every one say but we all live and learn. Now i can't remember what i did to set samba up (I was stomping aroud making change after change and not really noting what I was doing silly me again) although I think I am pretty close I can see the shares on the win 98 machine in gnomba but can't mount these shares . I think my problem is to do with my shares. I shall post my conf file. # Samba config file created using SWAT # from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1) # Date: 2002/02/08 08:47:34 # Global parameters [global] netbios name = JASON server string = Samba Server %v security = SHARE encrypt passwords = Yes null passwords = Yes debug level = 10 log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 50 socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192 printcap name = lpstat os level = 65 preferred master = Yes domain master = Yes writeable = Yes hosts allow = 192.168.0.16 printing = cups print command = /usr/bin/lp -d%p -oraw %s; rm %s lpq command = /usr/bin/lpstat -o%p lprm command = /usr/bin/cancel %p-%j queuepause command = /usr/bin/disable %p queueresume command = /usr/bin/enable %p [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba create mask = 0700 guest ok = Yes printable = Yes print command = lpr-cups -P %p -o raw %s -r # using client side printer drivers. lpq command = lpstat -o %p lprm command = cancel %p-%j [jason] comment = jason path = /home/jason guest ok = Yes [My share] path = /home/jason writeable = yes There is another problem in swat it tells me that nmbd is not running and it will not start but if I type [root@localhost /root]# samba status smbd (pid 2335) is running... nmbd (pid 1541) is running... I get this result (strange) Any help would be apprieciated.
