pop3 has absolutely nothing to do with postfix (which provides smtp capabilities).
What you need to do is: 1. Make sure imap is installed -- around 90% of the time, this is why you can't get pop3 working. 2. Make sure xinetd is installed -- if it isn't, pop3 will not work 3. Make sure pop3 isn't disabled. It would also be useful to know exactly what problems you are having so that the people on the list can provide more than 'generic' answers to your question.
