I don't know if this is an expert or newsier question, but here goes: I own a Radeon 8500. Bought it without looking at the supported hardware list... duh! OK, so I have lived with lousy video for a few weeks now. But as of the new version of XFree, the 8500 is supposed to have 2D support. I know for a fact that this is the case because, while playing around with another disro, I compiled the kernel/XFree myself and the video looks great.. or at least good enough for everyday use.
Installing the Cooker distro, I cannot get it to decognize my Radeon from the get-go. I edited the XFree86 config file to point it to the radeon driver, restarted X and still it looks like hell. So, my question is: Is there some other config file I am not aware of that I need to edit, or do I have to do something else to get it to recognize the 8500? I remember when I was workign with the other distro, I compiled the kernel with DRI support - do I need to recompile my Mandrake kernel as well? I'm quite at my wit's end here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance... aron _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
