Hi All, Got a gremlin in my box, I can't make the network configuration stay. Using Mandrake Control Center to set up a static IP on my machine seems to work fine, set's it up and I can use the network. Ahh, now comes the fun, when I reboot, it looses the host name and IP address. So, I set it all up using linux conf, let it make changes and opened it again to look. hostname set back to localhost.localdomain on first page, NO hostname, alias or IP address on second page. tried ifconfig, no device for eth0 error message. Getting frustrated at this point, went back into Mandrake control Center and AGAIN set it all up, let it make changes, network is OK, reboot, pffft, no Ipaddress or hostname... Wotinell's going on? I've 4 Mandrake 8.1 boxes and the one in question is the only one doing this.... FWIW, I have the network set up as smbfs all the way, using static IP's, no nfs..... Hosts on the network are: xxx.xxx.0.1 -> .0.5, the one having the problem is xxx.xxx.0.2........ OH, the box worked flawlessly on 8.1 until I re-installed with a different HDD..... Gremlins??? Or does someone have an idea?? -- Ken Thompson, North West Antique Autos Payette, Idaho Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.nwaa.com Sales and brokering of antique autos and parts.
