I would be running a memory checker very intensively before installing again. There was a thread on these a few days ago, either here or on newbie. Check the archives with keywords like memory check and you should find it quickly. I think it was Tom Brinkman who suggested a tool which actually stress tests the processor as well as memory. Sounds like the right thing to use here.
