My first mail client was pine. I used it for two hours and then immediate
asked for something else to use. I used elm for years, just because I hated
pine that much. (For those of you who have used elm, it's not the nicest of
email clients!)

I used KMail for about a week, then that's when a friend pointed me towards
mutt. In my opinion, pine doesn't compare to mutt. I think mutt is far more
configurable, and if compiled with nntp support, it works.

I have ~/.muttrc that's a couple hundred lines long. Then I stumble across
somebody who's ~/.muttrc is 3 times as long as mine is! Everything from
keybindings set, to macros, color configurations and the like. Like Mutt
is the vi of mail readers. It's impossible to learn all the different configs
that could be applied to it.

And as somebody already mentioned, neither pine or mutt are GUI based, but I
do believe people have created GUIs to work as a pine/mutt front end.

Mutt is your friend! :')

 | Having not used pine, would some kind soul impart how it stacks up against mutt.
 | Is pine a command line program or is it GUI?
