I personally choose kmix. In kmix green is ok, red is muted.
There is an issue with i810_audio (I guess, in some cards), that the
main volume control is not the main, but it is controlled by the pcm2
part.
PS: I suggest you check your cd-roms audio cable, it may not be
attached.
