You have some log files, should be in /var/log/samba. Do these give you
anymore information? How about /var/log/syslog? There should be some
addional information. What you have posted here is just not enough to go 
by, especially if, like you have said, you are sure the smb.conf is 
good. You did run a "testparm" on it, right?
