Sorry Dianne that I led you to believe the machine has ATA controllers. It doesn't. We just bought a new large drive to install these mulitple OS's on: a WD ATA 100 40g drive. The machine is a Dell Dimension XPS T-450 PIII. The Dell website shows the controllers to be EIDE. The data cables are the normal 40 pin.
So how will that effect what I should do about the corrupted/"full" partition table? > hi dan > > ok, now that you said you have an ATA100, the > situation is different. i think for such hard disk > controllers, you need to do a reverse detection. its > important that your regular ide controllers are > detected as hda-hdd and that your ATA controllers are > detected as hde-hdh then you install on hde. > > to make the detection reversed, you need to boot on > the 8.1 CD, press F1 to see the boot prompt then type > this: > > boot: linux ide=reverse > > if you cant see the detection messages you can disable > the framebuffers and boot on this mode: > > boot: linux vga=0 debug ide=reverse > > hth > dianne > > --- dbota <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > hi db > > > > Hi Dianne! > > > > > it seems that your partition table is already > > fscked > > > up ... i would suggest *really* zapping the boot > > > sector (usually sector 1) that contains partition > > and > > > booting info about your disk. > > > > > > to delete info on your boot sector as if your disk > > is > > > new, boot on rescue mode: > > > > How do I do that ...
